October Newsletter Cover

A note from the Chair:
What an amazing month October is shaping up to be! We had our first co-op day this month, and it was a wonderful day of families helping each-other to educate and enrich. All through the day we were blessed by the spirit of co-operation and unity there. We had an amazing turn out and feel excited about the coming co-op year.
On the very next day I was blessed by one of our members to be sponsored to attend the CHEC Home School Support Group Leaders’ Retreat at Glen Eyrie, in Colorado Springs, CO. It just turned out that my dad, who had been a homeschool support group leader for 20+ years, was in town and able to attend with me. My sweet husband was willing to keep the kids so that my dad and I could attend.
As we sat in a room with 40 other leaders from homeschool groups all across the Front Range, I was encouraged by the speakers and resources provided. During the networking times provided there, as well as from my dad’s experience, I heard over and over the hardships and struggles of home school groups everywhere. Balancing opportunities against costs or volunteers against burnout, we are all alike. I came to a few conclusions:
  • Our group is amazing, being both a support group and housing a co-op, as many groups choose only one or the other.
  • Our growth is not unlike what is happening everywhere, as families choose to answer God’s call to educate their children.
  • Our commitment is greater than I had estimated. This is no short term race.
  • God’s grace is awesome towards us. We have been so very blessed, and recent trials haven’t derailed our dedication to follow and honor Him. Our marching orders were from the Scripture below:
Romans 12:9-13

Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality.

I’m encouraged and refreshed for the year ahead, and I’m in this for the long haul… are you? I’d love to help you get more plugged in to VHSA, just send me an email! valleyhsa@gmail.com

Praying for you,
Laura
