VHSA Science Fair 2016

We are excited to announce we will be having a science fair for the kids of VHSA!

Anyone can join, just be sure to fill out the registration form linked  HERE. 

The Science Fair will take place at Monument Bible Church from 3-5pm. Judging will be by our favorite 4H lady, Jana Schwartz. For more information about creating a science exhibit click HERE!

National Weather Service in Cheyenne:  Monday, April 11th at 1:00 pm.  We are excited to visit the National Weather Service in Cheyenne! details to come, but what you need to know now: Limit of 25 students and parents. Deadline to RSVP: 3 days before the event. Please RSVP by contacting Tim Newman (number in your VHSA directory).

4H Hands On Science Presentation:  Thursday, March 31st at 2:45 pm.  Everyone is welcome to join us for our “In-House Field Trip” class at co-op. You do not need to be a registered participant in co-op to attend. On March 31, we will be having a 4-H presentation with hands on science experiments.

Discovery Lab Workshop: Engineering:  Tuesday, March 22nd from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the Harms Adv Tech Center WNCC. DEADLINE to register: noon 3/18/16.  Teacher supervised activities for ages 10 and up are being planned and offered by the HATC staff in the discovery lab, at a cost of $5 per student. Kids can be enrolled in this class by calling the HATC directly at 308-635-6700. (6 student minimum) We are planning to explore engineering in March – specifically building bridges using a computer simulation.

Dr. Todd Boggs Presentation on the Spine:  Thursday, April 14th at 2:45 pm.  Everyone is welcome to join us for our “In-House Field Trip” class at co-op. You do not need to be a registered participant in co-op to attend. On April 14th, Dr. Todd Boggs, of Chiropractic Concepts will be sharing with our students about the spine and chiropractic care.

National Center for Atmospheric Research Field Trip:  Thursday, April 21st at 10:00 am. The National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) is located in Boulder, Co. Their Visitor Center is open to the public and offers state-of-the-art exhibits. An experienced science educator will give us a guided tour of the Visitor Center, followed by a learning lab. Afterward, students can spend some time exploring the exhibits. This field trip is open to school age children and their families. We have a limited number of space available, so please RSVP with Bethany Adams as soon as possible.

“Let’s Rock” Geology Field Trip for 6th-7th Grade: Tuesday, May 10th at 9:00 am and Wednesday, May 11th at 2:15 at Scottsbluff National Monument.  VHSA has the opportunity for 6-7th graders to join this Geology event! We need firm numbers ASAP though, and likely will be limited to 10-12 students. Please comment ASAP if you are interested, or email valleyhsa@gmail.com or call Laura at 308-783-6107 or Marcy at 308-635-1495. Marcy will be co-coordinating this field trip, so please contact her with questions.  The event will be one day, either May 10 or May 11th. Still waiting for more info on that.  Description: geology, rocks and gems, paleontology, hydraulogy, erosion, and geologic time line.  The event is geared for middle school Earth Science students and meets NE State science Standards. Activities will take place around the museum. Option: Please allow 45 minutes that way if your students want to hike the monument either pre- or post-event. Lunch space provided in amphitheater or grassy area. Please take care of your National Monument and clean up any lunch trash.  Bring: water bottles, lunch, proper walking shoes (no sandals), and dress for the weather (it can be windy & cool)

Cheyenne Botanic Garden:  Friday, May 6th at 12:30 pm.  Tour the Botanic gardens in this self guided tour, it is a free event, but donations are welcome. You and your family will have fun in the childrens center discovering all the flowers and trees, playing rock tack toe, discovering a secret garden, putting on a play, and much more.
